MomsLove CAN HELP IN A CRISIS

What happens when you or someone you love wants to die? What do you do when you want to hurt yourself? How do you help someone who is so depressed they have given up? Or help someone going through a panic attack or intense fear? These are the dark areas of emotional healing and spiritual growth that before now, no one wanted to talk about. But it’s at these crossroads where we learn to use the pain and suffering as bridge to self discovery instead of a sentence of repetitive pain and self-harming and/or addictive behaviors.

In a mental health crisis, MOMSLOVE is an acronym which serves as a recipe for steps to take to get yourself out of a crisis state. The steps are very simple yet very powerful. The steps mirror the tenets of a mother’s love: we all know there is something special about a mother’s love and we believe it’s this quality which makes the MOMSLOVE method so profound in the lives of people who try it.

1. A mother’s love is always there for you to listen with compassion.

2. A mother’s love wants you to treat your body with utmost care and compassion.

3. A mother’s love wants to guide you in embodying the best possible you.

Negative emotions become overwhelming when we hold on to them: you must release them from your body to ease the pain. Use the MOMSLOVE acronym to feel and release the feeling while giving comfort and care.

This powerful acronym is designed to help fight suicide and self harming behaviors by teaching specific steps that are easy to remember to regain control during mental health crisis. Instead of hurting yourself through self-harm or addictions PLEASE, try MOMSLOVE!

MOMS LOVE "IN CRISIS" RECIPE

STEP 1: Take care of your body.

In order to release an emotion you must first identify the feeling, feel it in your body, and use movement and massage to release it.

MINDFULNESS

What am I feeling?

Identify the feeling and say it: “I am feeling__________.”

OXYGEN

Breathe through the feeling.

Just like pain, use breath work to get through the emotion and gain control of your body.

MASSAGE

Gently massage your heart.

Place your hand on your heart and gently massage your chest.
For someone else, gently place your hand on their back if its okay with them.

STRETCHING/SHAKE

Stretch and shake your body,

Stretch your chest, neck and arms- shake your arms & shoulders.

STEP 2: Take care of your mind.

Comfort yourself and take action with these mental prompts and reminders.

LAUGHTER

What is something that makes you laugh?

Remind yourself that you still can experience humor and joy.

ONENESS

Who do you feel close to?

Your answer reminds you that you are not alone.

VIBES

Are you safe?

If you are safe, calm your nervous system by saying “I am safe.”
If you are not safe take steps to get out of the situation.

EMPATHY

What is one nice thing I can do for myself?

Find the willpower to do even the smallest nice thing for yourself. Make a cup of tea or eat, cuddle up with a blanket, hug yourself or reach out for help.

Can we all agree on #momslove?

After completing the MOMS LOVE recipe go back to the beginning and again ask yourself "What am I feeling?" You will find that your feelings have softened or changed. Continue going through the steps until you feel like you can stop.
